The Marine and Water Bureau, restructured from the Maritime Administration on 18 July 2013, is a bureau under the Secretary for Transport and Public Works. It is a public institution with administrative autonomy which exercises maritime authority, promotes the development of maritime activities as well as coordinates water resources management.
The major responsibilities of the Marine and Water Bureau are to safeguard maritime safety, monitor and control navigation activities; co-ordinate maritime search and rescue operations; issue licences in respect of maritime and port activities; coordinate and supervise port affairs and ensure their compliance with safety regulations; coordinate and manage the operation of ferry terminals; foster the development of fisheries activities; coordinate water supply , study and formulate policies, systems and initiatives related to water management.
We strive to promote the development of maritime activities, maintain safe and clean seas, safeguard the stability and safety of water supply as well as facilitate the utilisation of water resources, with our professional services and a positive and proactive attitude, so as to provide citizens, tourists and related industries with quality marine and water supply services. We are also committed to promoting water conservation to the community and transforming Macao into a water efficient city.
