Title

Marcia Perry /Wildlife and Marine Airbrush Artist - Monterey Peninsula, California

Description

I began painting in 1972, shortly after Dr.Ayouja, my yoga and Eastern Religions teacher, who had practiced palmistry for twenty years, read my hand. He was emphatic when he told me "You must paint, you are an artist !". I picked up an airbrush, and taught myself to use it. I have made my living ever since utilizing my artistic airbrush skills.

In the early 70's I designed and airbrushed clothing that I sold at Colorado mountain fairs. I eventually graduated from capes to wall hangings. I was commissioned to do my first mural by a man on a train in 1975. It was based on a children's story I wrote. My first gallery art show was in Glenwwood Springs CO in 1976. I began doing both 2-d and 3-d (fabric "soft" sculpture) around that time. I airbrushed on a variety of materials, including silk, rice paper and suede. During these early experimental days, my subjects spanned animals, nature, fantasy, erotica and spiritual symbolism.

In the 80's I continued to do fine art and show in galleries. My creative attention turned towards writing and illustrating children's books, as well, after the birth of my daughter, Celia ,in 1981. My partner, Meg Biddle (painter, cartoonist and humorist illustrator), Celia and I moved from Denver to California in 1986. In L.A. I put my airbrush skills to task painting murals, faux finishes and trompe l'oeil, as well as commissioned paintings.
