Description
For more than fifty years the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra has been bringing classical music to life on the lakeshore. The Orchestra began as the dream of a young music teacher, new to the area, and filled with a passion for music that could not be contained by the classroom. Karl Miller had the vision of a community orchestra. He brought that vision to life. Now, more than a half century later, the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra is a testament to his vision as well as the countless musicians who have breathed life into musical scores that have, in turn, enhanced the lives of generations of audiences.
The MSO is more than the maestro and musicians who grace the stage during four annual subscription concerts and other special performances throughout the year. The MSO could not exist without the dedicated volunteers and contributors who gave of their treasure, time, and enthusiasm to foster musical appreciation and the music to appreciate.
The MSO operates under the auspices of the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra, Inc. A private, not-for-profit, (501.c.3) corporation. The mission of the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra Association is fourfold:
