Description
The tree is a potent symbol of Christian hope. Its roots draw deeply from the living water of God's Word, and its presence feeds our soul as oxygen feeds the lungs.
Humans created in God's image, created to live in a relationship of trust with him, chose to partake of the forbidden tree at the very beginning, and thus were denied the tree of life.
God graciously brought his people to a point of prosperity, despite their sinfulness - a peace and provision symbolised by the expression, 'Every man under his fig tree.' No wars, no toil, no tears. But Israel's continued sinfulness meant God's judgement fell again. God's prophets looked to the day when God would deal with sin once for all, and his peace reign.
