The name of the insitution - Mar Athanasios is for the sweet memmory of Late Bishop of Thiruvalla (Sulthan Bathery Diocese was a part of Thiruvalla Diocese before 1979). In his time the mission work of Malankara Catholic was extended to Malabar region. He is the Heavenly patron of this insitution.
