Wedding Officiant Maureen Thomson founded Lyssabeth's Wedding Officiants in April of 2002 in Denver Colorado. The business is named after Thomson's adult daughters, Bethany and Alyssa. The business was first established to provide unique joyful and memorable wedding ceremonies for those couples who did not have church affiliations or for what ever reason, did not want to be married by a traditional clergy person or justice of the peace. Thomson took her background in social work, writing and public speaking and began offering custom wedding ceremonies throughout the metro Denver area. As demand for services grew, she began training others in the Lyssabeth's method of writing and performing custom wedding ceremonies.
Since its inception, Lyssabeth's has grown to over 40 officiants providing services throughout Colorado (Denver, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Boulder, and the mountains), California (San Francisco Bay Area, Monterey, Carmel) and the Oregon Coast. In response to customer demand, in 2004, Lyssabeth's also began offering more affordable pre-written wedding ceremonies. they are known as elopement ceremony experts in the areas they serve. In 2009, in response to a growing "do it yourself" trend, Thomson developed a Write Your Own Wedding Ceremony e-kit that allows couples to compose their own beautifully customized wedding ceremony.
