Lafayette Utilities System has a long and proud history of serving the people of Lafayette. We are your next-door neighbors and we care about the same things you do; reasonable utility rates and reliable, quality services that can protect our families and make our community better. LUS offers its customers quality electric, water, and wastewater service. As a customer-owned and operated utility, LUS customers have the power to set rates and control the standard of service. We are always working to better LUS and Lafayette.
LUS employs over 400 people and is a department of the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The main benefit the Lafayette community receives from owning its utility is having one of the lowest residential electric utility rates in the state. LUS is an integral part of our community. LUS earnings keep Lafayette taxes low. Approximately $17.2 million of in lieu-of-tax (ILOT) is transferred to the Consolidated Government General Fund each year. This ILOT contribution supports services like police and fire protection, parks and recreation, and community development.
