High Protein Diet, Low Carb Diet Cookbooks: Nancy's Cookbooks
Description
From the beginning- My husband Ron and I have both been very overweight most of our lives. I have been on just about every diet known to man at least a zillion times. I have lost and gained back hundreds of pounds. My husband really didn't have a clue "how to diet". His idea of dieting was just one sausage and egg croissant, one hash brown patty, and only one mammoth blueberry muffin, instead of two of each. Before July of 1998, we had been on a low-fat diet for about 5 years and during that 5-year period we both had gained weight. We just couldn't understand why it didn't work. Our refrigerator had nothing but low-fat and fat-free products and we ate egg substitutes, turkey bacon, and fat-free cheese - YUK!
I personally was at a place in my life where I thought I would never lose weight again. I felt helpless and hopeless. I had such severe Fibromyalgia that I could hardly get out of bed because the pain was so severe. Then in July of 1998 we met up with friends in Deadwood, South Dakota at a reunion. One of our friends had lost over 60 pounds and we hardly recognized him. He said his brother-in-law who was a surgeon had recommended the Atkins Diet. I had heard of the Atkins Diet being a Registered Nurse but had not really looked into it. I guess I was too busy buying into the negative hype to actually research the diet. After researching and completely reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book, my husband and I decided to make the commitment to do this and to never go off it, no matter what.
We decided if our friend who was 70 years old could do this then we could too. I guess the rest is history - I've lost over 130 pounds and Ron has lost 80 pounds and we've been eating low-carbs for 4 years now and have kept our weight off. As far as I'm concerned, keeping it off is the most important factor. I have never been able to lose weight and keep it off for any length of time.
