Title
Loominaries Hand-Woven Rag Rugs by Patricia Lukas
Description
A note about our rag rugs. The term “rag rug” was used to describe rugs woven by hand on wooden looms, beginning somewhere in the 19th century. The primary materials were generally a cotton warp and fabric weft. The fabric was usually strips of fabric taken from old clothing. Hence the term “rag rug”.
The rugs woven by Patricia Lukas are also created by hand on wooden looms. There is, at this point, a great departure between her rugs and those woven one hundred years ago. Patricia uses a strong Belgian or Irish linen natural warp. The fabrics used are new, high quality designer fabrics that retail at $25.00 per yard and up.
The colors are all current, which enables Patricia to create custom rugs utilizing colors derived from a client’s wallpaper or fabric swatch. Due to the fact that these fabrics are used primarily for drapery and upholstery, most of them have been treated. Therefore, professional cleaning can be reduced to a minimum, under normal circumstances. Frequent vacuuming and shaking of the rugs and cleaning spills with a damp sponge, will also reduce the need for frequent cleanings. When absolutely necessary, the rugs should be professionally cleaned the same as any other high quality carpet.
