About the Choir
London Concert Choir has been an established part of the London music scene since 1960, when it was founded as the Brompton Choral Society. With over 100 singers, the choir performs a wide variety of music, from unaccompanied church music through baroque oratorio to the major choral works of the 19th and 20th centuries. London Concert Choir regularly gives concerts at the South Bank Centre and in major churches and cathedrals, with orchestras such as the BBC Concert Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The choir has also sung in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, receiving enthusiastic reviews, and recently visited Dublin (June 2005).
Music Director Mark Forkgen draws from the choir performances that are characterised by their intensity, conviction and wide range of expression. The choir provides a stimulating and enjoyable experience both for its members and for its audience, and constantly tries to stretch its abilities and to extend its repertoire and range of styles.
London Concert Choir has often included newly commissioned works in its programmes. Following a successful collaboration with Simon Speare, resulting in three major works performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the choir commissioned a new anthem by Keith Roberts, which appears on Sing Praises, a CD of psalm settings. It has also become a tradition for Christmas concerts to feature a new carol composed by a member of the choir.
