Description
In early 1999, the Executive Board of the University of Limerick (UL) approved the establishment of the Localisation Research Centre (LRC). This centre is the result of a merger between the Centre for Language Engineering at the University of Limerick (UL) and the Localisation Resources Centre, formally based at University College Dublin (UCD).
The Localisation Research Centre at UL provides the long-term infrastructure and framework to build on this innovative, bridge-building concept, supported by industry, government and third-level institutions and its highly successful operation piloted over the initial three years under the government’s Technology Centres Programme (address by Mr. Noel Treacy, TD, Minister for Science, Technology and Commerce at the Localisation Checkpoint'99 Conference.).
In 1997, UL established the world’s first dedicated postgraduate programme in Software Localisation and in 2001 the first International Localisation Summer School. The LRC also runs regular Professional Development Courses which are linked to the Certified Localisation Professional (CLP) Programme established by The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP).
