Loaded is sewn from the seeds of several club nights, two different clubs, and a lot of awkward pauses. What it brings together is less about a "mod-only" esthetic, than it is about bringing together uniqueness, individuality and good times for those unwilling to accept the everyday. But make no mistake: this is not a hippie gathering, or a bizarre youth cult, but a gathering of people who actually like music, having a good time and spending their Saturdays in an entirely different place. They may be mods. They may be rockers. They may be Goths, students or even headbangers. They come to Loaded for a good time.
Like it or not, it comes back to the music. At Loaded, that means 60s soul or ska, Rock'n'Roll, disco, Britpop, baggy, glam or new wave, indie or funk. We play a lot, but then we also don't play a lot. To give you a good idea - you're more likely to hear the Rolling Stones than Jimi Hendrix, the Clash than Green Day, Aretha Franklin than Madonna, Iggy Pop than Ozzy Ozbourne, and so it goes. We also play the White Stripes, the Strokes, the Rapture, the Smiths, the Who, Death In Vegas, Primal Scream, Madness, Otis Redding, Blondie, the Ramones. The Stone Roses, Desmond Dekker, the Dandy Warhols, Belle and Sebastian, Clinic, the Vines, and about 50 million other bands. We always take requests, and always ensure that if we don't have them, we will have them the next time you come.
For time and taste reasons, there is a lot we won't, or can't play. We rarely play hip-hop, radio R&B, nu-metal or grunge, as an example. Which means you won't hear the Notorious B.I.G., Korn, Sisqo, Limp Bizkit, Jay-Z, Nickelback, Creed, Bush, Nelly, Shaggy, or a lot of other artists of their ilk. This is simply because there are other clubs in Winnipeg that play top 40 and R&B, and frankly, because it just isn't what we do.
