Title

Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation - Lincolnwood, IL

Description

It is the aim and purpose of the Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation to preserve and strengthen traditional Judaism, the basic principals of which have been sanctified by the usage of the ages in Halachah (Torah Law.) It shall, under its banner, strive for the maintenance of Jewish tradition in its historic continuity. It shall not, under any circumstances, sever ties with the Jewish spirit of the past, but it shall in every way possible, take cognizance of the spirit of the present.

Therefore, it shall aim to present and interpret the lofty and noble ideas and ideals of Judaism in such a meaningful form and dignified manner as to imbue the young, adolescent, and the old with the true and genuine spirit and understanding of the glorious nobility and ethical truths of Judaism.

Established in 1958 as a Traditional Synagogue, LJC offers its members two services. A mechitza-separate seating minyon meets every day of the year, including Shabbos and Holy Days, and another service, Traditional in form, with mixed seating, takes place in the Sanctuary. The Congregation has undergone extensive renovation, with beautiful and original stained glass windows designed by Chicago Artist Enid Silverman in the Beth Midrash, and a new Bimah and Aron Hakodesh designed by our congregant, Michael Gore, and constructed by local craftsmen.
