Description

Libraries Online, Inc. (LION) is a not-for-profit formed by its members in 1982. Our 22 libraries share an Integrated Library System and other services at its Middletown facility in 100 Riverview Center. Members are located throughout southern and central Connecticut and use LION-owned or member-owned terminals and PCs on LION's Wide Area Network. Public, school, and academic member libraries use the system to service their 365,000 patrons with 650,000 shared unique titles linked to the two million books and other items in their local collections. LION presently operates the epixtech integrated library system.

LION operates three computer systems providing member services. The LION epixtech integrated library system serves 250 terminals and workstations in 25 geographic locations on a SUN Ultra Enterprise 450 . The CPU is configured with three 450 MHz processors and main memory is 2 GB. LION's disk storage subsystem currently totals 146 GB expandable to 182 GB. The system is presently configured for 300 users, expandable to 800.

A separate SUN Enterprise 250 computer supporting the Java epixtech version of WebPAC supports up to 75 simultaneous users. Readers may access member library catalogs and services through LION ILS from school, home, or office through the Internet. LION also hosts email and web page services through an epixtech NetConnect system running on a SUN Ultra 10 computer. That server supports 250 simultaneous sessions and at least 600 E-mail accounts.
