Lindy Hop is a popular type of swing dancing based on an eight-count rhythm. Lindy's basic step is the swingout and the dance incorporates Charleston, Jazz and traditional African dance. Lindy Hop sprung up during the Harlem renaissance in New York City in the '20s and '30s. Today Lindy Hop is widely danced throughout the world, with its primary constituency in the United States. "Lindy Exchanges" are hosted in major cities on a yearly or bi-yearly basis, providing a place for devoted Lindy Hop dancers to travel and come together for a weekend of dancing and workshops.
