On Monday, May 7, 2007, the Mayor and Lincoln City Council approved Illinois State Police Retired Lieutenant Stuart Erlenbush as the Police Chief for the City of Lincoln. The Lincoln Police Department has undergone significant changes over the last year to better safeguard the citizens of Lincoln. Chief Erlenbush requested Sergeant Michael Geriets to be appointed Deputy Chief on February 4, 2008, which was approved by the Lincoln City Council.
