Description
The Lighthouse Venture Forum is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide the greater Santa Cruz area with a forum for the exchange of business ideas, particularly those that promote technology, business, and economic leadership in our community.
A key landmark in Santa Cruz is our lighthouse on scenic West Cliff Drive. A lighthouse embodies many of the qualities and goals of the Forum. Lighthouses faithfully guide ships - from all parts of the world and all types of vessels - to their desired destination. Enduring strong surf and weather, Lighthouses and their keepers, are important nautical aids for keeping and setting a steady course to sail. The presence of a lighthouse stimulated trade. Port cities that built lighthouses often developed a head start in their coastal commercial development.
Lighthouses use a special lens, called a "Fresnel" (pronounced: Fruh-nell and named after the French physicist who developed the lens) that increases the power of a light and focuses it in one direction.
