Here are # tips to help you get more credit card numbers from your visitors:
#1 Have unique content on each of your product and product category pages.
- This will help tell Google it's valuable content, and if you write the content well, it can help more of your visitors actually pull out their credit card.
- Don't just copy the manufacturer's description of the product. Write your own description so that Google sees it as valuable, unique content.
Include informative descriptions of your products.
- Don't ask me why, but I always read the text on the bottle when I'm choosing a shampoo and it's one of the #1 things that helps me decide which to buy. I guess I want to know it's been specially formulated for my hair type, and what extracts it includes :-)
- And when I'm buying something online it's even more important that I know exactly what I'm buying, since I can't hold it in my hand and it will probably be harder to return.
- Tell shoppers what they may want to know about the product, so they don't have to wonder or contact you. You want to convince them to buy it RIGHT NOW.
If you have a great return policy, tell people about it.

#2 Create pages for relevant categories people may be searching for.
- Some people may be searching for specific product names like "Nikon D90," but also search for things like "Nikon digital camera" and "digital SLR cameras."
- Giving them pages with all your products in that category could really help you rank in Google and Bing for what they're searching for, and these category pages also help visitors find what they're looking for so they can move down the buying funnel from researcher or browser to buyer.
#3 Find our what shoppers are searching for most.
- Keyword research is an invaluable way to find out what words you should be optimizing your site for. You can find out how many people search for a particular keyword, and how competitive it is to rank for that keyword.
- For more info on keyword research, read Keyword Research Is Key to Online Success.
- Allow people to "like" and share your products on social media sites.
- Allow reviews
- Update your content regularly
- Google Freshness update
- Make the "buy now" call to action really obvious.
- People don't really read on the Internet - they scan and look at pretty pictures :-) If it's not very obvious how to buy something on your website, they probably won't. Make sure it's "above the fold" so people don't have to scroll down to see it, and consider using a color that stands out and draws the eye.
- Ask a few people to look at a product page on your site for 5 seconds, and see if they can find how to buy it in that time. If the answer is no, adjust and re-test it.
- Minimize the hurdles to buy something on your site.
- If you make it easy for someone to make a purchase on your website, more people will. Avoid making people do anything that you don't need them to do: like creating an account or entering their phone number if you don't need to call them. The more things you make someone do, the less likely they are to complete the purchase.
- Make it easy for people to contact you.
- How many times have you been considering buying something and just wanted to ask one quick question about the product? Have you had problems purchasing something online?
- Including easy-to-find contact info on your site helps prevent lost sales / boost sales. Period.
- Also, even if people never contact you, seeing your contact info there can help them feel safe about purchasing from your website. For more info, read Boost Conversions and SEO with Contact Info.
