The MVPG, Inc. is a grass-roots non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the unique history and landscapes of the Massachusetts communities located along the banks of the Merrimack River.
The museum is an active community resource that offers a journey into Haverhill's past. Discover the stories, people and events unique to this historic city nestled in the Merrimack Valley.
Visit the John Ward House, the Duncan House, and the Daniel Hunkins Shoe Shop. The Buttonwoods Museum houses 10,000 objects from furniture, ceramics and glassware, to quilts, dolls and toys. Explore Native American artifacts from the Lower Merrimack Valley including stone tools, bone implements and baskets. Step into the Queen Slipper City. A large collection of shoes and shoemaking tools represent Haverhill’s role as a world leader in the shoe industry. The Historical Society offers a variety of education programs, workshops, lectures, and fundraising events.
