LEAF Ottawa
Description
LEAF Ottawa is a student-run branch of LEAF National that aims to advance the equality of women and girls in Canadian society through the use of the provisions of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. LEAF intervenes at the Canadian appellate courts on cases that have a significant impact on issues of gender equality. Since its inception, LEAF has assisted in actions dealing with issues such as:
Education Initiatives - Our "No Means No" Project is our primary education initiative. The aim of the project is to inform young Canadians of section 15 issues, through the use of the Supreme Court decision, Ewanchuk; and
Community Outreach - Our Community Outreach Programme aims to network with local women's organizations and identify grassroots equality issues in the Ottawa community with the hopes of identifying potential Charter violations.
