Description
The artistry and craftsmanship behind the creations of Le Topiaries is Duc Van Le. Duc was inspired to develop this art of topiary caricatures after a visit to Disneyland , where he saw grand plant creatures cropped and staged throughout the theme park. He went home and self taught himself; initially with simple animal forms such as teddy bears and improved through the years to craft extreme intricate pieces such as a life size WW2 ship. After 17 years of developing his craft, Duc is now able to transform any object into a unique original topiary creation.
His creative process starts with a personal request from a costumer and/or a spontaneous image he observes that inspires him to recreate in topiary form. He does extensive research on the image and obtains as many pictures as possible to obtain full visual perspective. He proceeds to do a charcoal hand sketch of the overall image in different angles and poses. Then, he breaks the image into individual pieces, which he draws on cardboard and uses to form a 3D model of the image. Once he is satisfied with the replica, he uses the cardboard pieces as the template to cut and mold each piece of metal wire, which is used as the outside frame to the topiary caricature. The individual pieces are assembled and then spray-painted with a rust-resistant paint. Each topiary frame is sized with the proper plant and married together to complete the topiary creation.
Le Topiary is a family operated and managed business. The business has been in operations for over 15 years (formerly known as Zooland Topiary). Le Topiary has been sold in the Orange County Market Place, the Pasadena Swap Meet, the Long Beach Swap Meet, the San Diego Swap Meet, various Green Thumb Nurseries. Le Topiary creations have been featured in city parks, office centers, hospitals, gas stations, city street islands,shipping yards, sea ports, and hundreds of homes in California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. The expansion of the business from a home base, to open market and now to the internet will make Le Topiary one of the most well-known creator and supplier of topiary plants.
