The largest state employees union has ratified what union officials called their biggest contract ever, a package that could be worth $500 million over three years. The contract was approved by 94 percent of Service Employees International Union Local 1000's 85,000 members after a monthlong vote, the union said Saturday.

Armando Vergara Passes

Aramando Vergara, long time labor leader who spent most of his career with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, lost his life on July 14th to Cancer. Armando first joined the Carpenters Union in 1950 and advanced steadily through leadership ranks to be elected to the General Executive Board’s 8th District. He was also a National Founding Member of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA).
