David and Rhonda McDougall purchased The Latimer Inn in March, 2004, as their first venture into innkeeping. Both are very "people oriented" and wanted an opportunity to use their combined experience to create an atmosphere of warm, friendly hospitality. They moved to the country after living in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA, about 20 years. They have enjoyed the community feeling where "everyone knows your name", although they admit it takes a bit more planning since they're not five minutes from doctors, shopping and everyday errands. Prior to being full time innkeeper, David owned a stained glass repair and restoration studio in Marietta, GA, for five years. Once some of the major renovations are complete to The Latimer Inn, he hopes to re-open his studio for art glass. Rhonda is a mortgage loan underwriter during the week and acts as David’s "right hand man/girl" for projects on weekends.
David and Rhonda are remodeling The Latimer Inn to create a lodge atmosphere with fish, deer and ducks decorating the lobby walls and tables. They are creating a theme for each room and so far, have completed the Duck Room, the Americana Room, the Garden Room, the Country Room, and the Route 66 Room. Their goal is to be as different as possible from a typical franchise motel to create that long forgotten feeling of Southern Comfort and Hospitality. Hope to meet you soon!
