- Lake Purdy is one of the few places in Alabama which still offers a full lakeside tackle/bait shop, boat rental, rod rental, free bank fishing, and Nissan outboard motor repair (link). The lake and surrounding land is owned and regulated by the Birmingham Waterworks so it is completely development free. The lake serves as the source for Birmingham's drinking water so the fish here are excellent to eat! The fish population consists of Large Mouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Crappie, Bream, Catfish, and Coy. If you're looking for an inexpensive getaway, we have picnic areas, welcome bank fishing, and have beautiful sunsets! Come out to enjoy a day fishing or just getting out of the house.
