Village of LaGrange, IL : Community Home Page
Description
t was because of a visionary businessman, Franklin Dwight Cossitt, in 1870 who wanted to build his "dream" town that LaGrange today is considered a dream town by most of its 15,362 residents. LaGrange is a small village encompassing only two square miles, but it is home to more than 600 businesses employing thousands of people. LaGrange enjoys a vibrant downtown business district made up of over 300 shops with neighborly merchants dedicated to offering quality products and personal, small-town service. LaGrange is served by two commuter rail depots and is equidistant from Interstates 90, 55, and 294 with more than 1,000 parking spaces convenient for commuters and shoppers.
he Village has a Historic District surrounding the Central Business District. Much of LaGrange's early history is preserved in its many finely-restored Victorian, Queen Anne, Vernacular and Prairie School style homes. LaGrange has an excellent educational system anchored by Lyons Township High School. Six elementary schools and two junior high schools serve over 2,500 students and there are several private schools in the area. Residents may pursue post-secondary education at the College of DuPage in neighboring Glen Ellyn as well as at the many public and private colleges and universities in the Chicago area.
