Description
LabelPrinters.org provides information about arc flash hazards, NFPA 70E compliance, and arc flash labeling. Includes an arc flash blog with current news and information related to arc flash and electrical hazards.
Arc flash is a serious workplace electrical hazard. An arc flash occurs when high-voltage electricity arcs through air, superheating it and causing a blast wave carrying droplets of molten metal. Arc flash incidents kill 1 to 2 people per day in the U.S., and cause many more serious injuries.
A number of steps can be taken to prevent arc flash injuries. OSHA and the National Fire Protection Association have developed safety standards for dealing with live electrical equipment. One key measure is proper assessment and labeling of arc flash hazards.
Industry standards such as NFPA 70E, OSHA 29 CFR-1910, and the National Electrical Code (NEC) require that all electrical equipment (except in residences) which might need to be worked on while energized must be labeled as an arc flash hazard. Currently only 50-60% of relevant equipment is labeled. Lack of warning labels exposes workers to potentially hazardous energy, and exposes employers to OSHA citations and fines.
This web site focuses on providing information about arc flash labeling equipment and supplies that can be used to make arc flash labels, as well as providing information about labeling regulations.
