Southern California is a vast mission field. Its size is similar to that of Massachusetts. L.A. County itself has a population greater than that of 42 states. Only eleven nations in the world have economies larger than that of L.A. County. Southern California has nearly twenty million residents. And you can find nearly any mission field here – from Arab-Americans and Mexicans to Germans and Chinese. For example, look at these numbers from Los Angeles county alone:
Southern California also has an impact around the world. Mexico lies right next door, and more than 3 million Mexicans live in Los Angeles. Because of its location on the Pacific Rim, the city has close connections with the major Asian nations. The Port of Long Beach services the entire western half of the United States. Of course, Hollywood influences the world with television programming and movies. California’s largest city truly is a gateway to the world.
