Description

The Official site of the now defunct pirate radio station

Kylie Fm first started transmitting on February 4 1984 from an old fishing vessel around the southern tip of the UK in international waters on 12.125 fm. The homemade transmitter came to life powered by a petrol generator, with only one disc jockey and a handful or records, unlicensed by any government for all of its life it was labelled as a pirate radio station. Although one of a number of unlicensed radio stations based on ships anchored off Britain. Because of the lack of daytime music radio competition during the early months of transmission Kylie FM soon commanded a daytime audience of several million listeners at a time when all day kylie tracks broadcast in England was unknown. On the 15 October 1987 our ship "Kylie II" drifted in a storm and run aground off the south coast thanks largely to a clear weather report from Michael Fish. Transmissions ceased as the boat entered British territorial waters and the crew and broadcasting staff were rescued unharmed, but the ships hull was damaged and it had to go into dry dock , but was beyond repair.
