- Kristina Neumann was born in New York City in 1964. She came from a family of collectors of 20th Century Modern and Contemporary art. During her formative years her family emphasized and eclectic, intellectual and artistic philosophy of life. As a result, her art reflects multiple messages which interplay poetically, consummating in an integrated depiction of the complexities of life. For example, in one painting, colorful and creative fashion is contrasted with a textile-type rendering of the cellular components of human biology. The spindle-like elements are layered upon a raw red background and are reflected in the conceptual imagery of chromosome splitting. The raw red background is an allegorical expression of the movement of blood. The rough, the chaotic, is contrasted with order and refinement in a surprisingly playful, seductive and serious manner.
