What is the Lakeshore Repeater Association?

The Lakeshore Repeater Association, Inc. was started by Racine and Kenosha Amateur Radio enthusiasts in 1975 to provide repeater service to the Southeastern Wisconsin area. Due to the close relationship with the Southeast Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross, we were allowed to install the 2 Meter repeater equipment in the Red Cross Building at 4521 Taylor Avenue in Racine, WI. Many local Hams put in hundreds of hours of time, others donated equipment and money to get the repeater into operation. Maintenance is still a volunteer effort by the few technically qualified to do so. Expansion of the 2 meter system by adding outlying remote receive sites has expanded coverage. The first remote site is in Union Grove, WI. The second site is Northwest of Franksville, WI and is unique in that it is solar powered. The Third site is in Kenosha. A second UHF repeater was added when KB9HSJ and KF9ZT donated their UHF repeater to the association. The UHF repeater is located between Racine and Kenosha on a tower at 360 feet.

The repeaters help local hams provide support to many local community services such as parades, various community walks and races, the local Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and most important of all, they are available for any emergency that may arise.

Meetings are held quarterly at 7:30 PM on the last Tuesday of January, April, July and October at the American Red Cross Building at 4521 Taylor Avenue in Racine, WI.
