Description
Upon returning home from World War II, a 20 year old Richard Kimi realized how much the islands of Hawaii had meant to him. Richard missed the sun, the ocean, the warmth and kindness of our island people and felt that one day our Hawaiian Islands would become a mecca for people searching for this paradise he called "home".
He soon became a general contractor and dreamt of building a hotel. After years of hard work, he built a 30-room hotel in Hilo, which quickly found success. Shortly after he enlisted his brothers Gilbert and Kenneth to join this family venture. Richard’s dream grew into the very successful Sand & Seaside Hotel chain.
Years later, this 1000 room hotel chain is still owned and operated by this Hawaiian family. These hotels are unique in character because most of our employees are of Island descent. They share the unique characteristic of our islands and embrace the warmth and aloha of Hawaii.
