Sweden has established a Maritime Security Concept, where Kockums' products play a decisive role - on and below the surface. The Royal Swedish Navy commands a high standard of international competence in the niche area "littoral waters", based on its shallow water expertise developed in Sweden's archipelagos. Kockums' products enable the Swedish Navy and Swedish Coast Guard to operate across the entire conflict spectrum, from civil to military threat, and to conduct a broad range of international missions.
The concept "maritime" is a collective term that embraces anything to do with utilisation of the marine environment: shipping, maritime surveillance, sea rescue, fishing, the utilisation of marine resources etc. The threat scenario has changed radically, especially in terms of the increased threat posed by terrorist action to civil shipping. Other challenges include those posed by pirates and smugglers, who may be engaged in the smuggling of people as well as goods. Society must have the means to act against such threats, to ensure national and international security.
Kockums is introducing a modular security ship that can fulfil both civil and military roles. Utilising a modular approach, the crew can optimise the vessel with the precise equipment needed for individual missions.
