Kirkby Lonsdale, Historic Market Town
Description
History
The ancient market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is just inside the south east boundary of Cumbria. Here the pretty River Lune passes through a rocky channel leading to the famous old Devil's Bridge. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086, Kirkby Lonsdale holds a 13th century market charter, and possesses many 17th and 18th century buildings.
Location
Kirkby Lonsdale is an ideal holiday base in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. There are many attractions in and around the town, and many places to see and things to do.
Kirkby Lonsdale is only six miles from the M6 (Exit 36) going east, and has a by-pass which takes away through traffic. It is a perfect half-way stopping place between London and Scotland.
