Description
Born in Illinois, I grew up in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Wyoming and lived in Arizona for the 16 years prior to my move to New York in 1975. In Arizona I was very active in theatre as an actor, also doing set design and execution while majoring in Art and Foreign Language at Arizona State University. I left ASU to begin an apprenticeship with Arizona's master sculptor, John Waddell, at the Waddell Sculpture Fellowship near Sedona, Arizona. There I studied sculpting in its many forms, focusing on the lost wax process from armature, modeling and mold making through bronze casting and chasing. Along with the sculpting activities, studies included life drawing, oil painting, watercolor, farming and livestock. I also began designing and making jewelry at this time.
After leaving Arizona, I pursued a professional performing career singing and acting in theatrical productions across the country with New York as home base.
For 12 years I worked in film and video production. For the HBO documentary P.T. Barnum & His Human Oddities, I recreated one of Barnum's earliest sensations, The Feejee Mermaid -- half monkey, half fish. It now resides in the permanent collection of the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport, CT.
