Time for a little history lesson: Who founded Memphis, TN with his buddy, Andrew Jackson? Kim Overton's great (x4) grandfather, John Overton, that's who! And what does the great-x4 granddaughter of this one John Overton do when attending family reunions at John's ranch in Memphis? Enter and win dance competitions, no doubt. Kim did just that, and made her grandfather (the great, x2, grandson of John Overton), who also dances competitevely, very proud.
Years post John Overton's land deal, Kim's grandfather, Volma Overton, (former President of the Austin, TX branch of the NAACP) moved with his family from Tenessee, to Texas. Kim's father, born and raised in Austin, TX, joined the army and met Kim's Manchester, England born mother, and had little Kim there and then - in Manchester, England.
"I'm a little bit rock, a little dance music, a little hip-hop, but no country", Kim (a.k.a. Kimberley Jane) says. The Memphis part of her heritage must have dilluted somewhere along the way.
