- I grew up in the small town of Hannibal in northeast Missouri. Hannibal is world renown as it was the home of the famous author Mark Twain. I was a pretty normal kid growing up. Things went along great until one little kink in the road at age 13 that changed my life forever. After nearly collapsing up the stairs one day, we learned in our small clinic that I had type-one diabetes. Diabetes was a foreign language in our house. We had no idea what to expect. I had no idea what direction in life that this disease would take me.
