KIDware Software
Description
KIDware was founded in 1982 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. At that time, there were many 'toy' computers being introduced to the market. Names like VIC-20, Commodore 64, Apple II, Texas Instruments 99/4A, Atari 400, Coleco Adam, Sinclair Timex, and the IBM PC Jr, were finding their way to market. Of these, we felt the Texas Instruments machine offered the most to the consumer and began writing and marketing children's software (in the BASIC language) for that machine.
By the way, a fully-equipped Texas Instruments computer with 48K (that's K not M) of memory, a single floppy disk drive that held 100K (again, K not M) of information, with a 9 inch color monitor cost nearly $2000! Our software was distributed on audio cassette tapes (the first media used by Microsoft, by the way) and was sold by most of the major national vendors. Following this initial success, we migrated our titles to the Commodore 64 and Apple II, and eventually to the IBM PC and Macintosh, still using BASIC.
In 1986, KIDware moved to Seattle, Washington, where we now sit in the shadow of such technology giants as Microsoft, Amazon.Com, Nintendo and Starbucks (OK, it's low-tech, but it is the life blood supplier for programmers). When Microsoft's Visual Basic was introduced in the early 1990's, we decided to rewrite all of our programs (and add many new ones) in that language and market exclusively to Windows users. Our educational software is used by families and schools in all 50 states and in many foreign countries. The comments we receive daily show that users are delighted with the low-cost and high-quality of our product. Such satisfaction has allowed us to stay in business for over 20 years.
