Kevin Leach
Radio Presenter, DJ & Broadcast Sound Specialist based in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.
Wedding DJ
Amongst other things Kevin is a DJ, available for all types of function, but specialising in weddings.
When it comes to choosing the music for a wedding, you can't please all of the people all of the time, but Kevin aims to do his best. He plays songs that he thinks people like to dance to. Whilst he says he's not trying to win any credibility awards, he believes that good, well known songs don’t have to be cheesy.
Now of course you shouldn't spend your special evening without hearing any of your favourite songs being played...it’s your day after all. Kevin makes it his job to combine a mixture of your musical tastes with those of the rest of your guests.
He also feels there's a happy medium when it comes to use of the microphone. Whilst there's nothing worse than a DJ who likes the sound of his own voice, a friendly voice to welcome guests and make announcements can come in handy.
Like many DJs, Kevin now uses computer technology to play music rather than conventional records or CDs. This has many advantages, including the ability to carry a large library of music which can be instantly recalled. However whereas some DJs will play poor quality (and often illegally) downloaded music, Kevins entire library has been transferred from his own CD collection.
The computer system was designed for the radio industry and is very reliable. Just to be safe though, he carries a second backup computer.
Kevin is covered by a £5,000,000 public liability insurance policy, which many venues now insist upon.
Radio Presenter
Kevin began his broadcasting career at commercial radio station Minster FM in York in 1996. He then went on to present on stations including Hallam FM, Sun FM, Yorkshire Coast Radio, Home 107.9, BFBS and Garrison Radio.
After a spell presenting Traffic & Travel from Metro Networks (or TrafficLink as it's now known) in Middlesbrough, Kevin landed a job at BBC Radio Leeds where as well as travel news, he worked on the what's on guide and did the odd bit of presenting.
Kevin is now freelance and presents on stations including Yorkshire Radio and Minster FM.
Broadcast Sound Specialist
Much of Kevins time is spent working as a sound operative. He regularly works as a Studio Manager for BBC News, a technical role mixing the sound for Five Live, Radio 4 and World Service programmes. The role also involves driving and operating the outside broadcast vans for Radio News in and around London.
He co-ordinated the radio element of BBC News & Sport on Tour in 2005 and 2006 - a fully 'hands on' annual exhibition. This invloved working with the public alongside other BBC staff to give a taste of how a radio news bulletin is produced and presented. Kevin also prepared the editorial content for the tour and installed the equipment.
In October 2006, he was involved in training staff at BBC Radio Cleveland in the operation of their new digital studios and the phone-in software PhoneBox.
Kevin is available for short or long term bookings for outside broadcasts, digital editing, live events, studio operation or staff training.
