In 1938 Kenneth F.M. Bush succeeded to the small firm of Coulton & Son which practised from an office in King Street, King's Lynn, Norfolk. Matthews & Co. of Swaffham, which was originally established in the late 19th century, was taken over in 1948 and a further branch at Downham Market was added more recently.
