Has established a foundation to provide for the long-term financial stability and continuation of the work of the KCHS. A KCHS Contributor helps to support these programs: Operation of the Animal Shelter Pet Adoption Spay/Neuter Assistance Community Education Program Investigation of Animal Cruelty and Neglect Cases.

Operates an adoption program for homeless pets on-site 6 days a week. An additional Sunday adoption program is held monthly with a program at Carl Sandburg Mall one Saturday a month. Great care is taken by Shelter staff in ensuring the right animal goes to prospective adopters.
