When K. Bannerman was a little girl, her uncle pulled her aside and told her, sotto voce, that she would grow up to be a werewolf. He claimed that it was a family trait which could not be cured or ignored -- she'd just have to live with it. At first, she was terrified, but soon became very excited by the whole idea, and when she grew up, she decided to write about a family of werewolves living on the British Columbian coast.
