The Seishin Karate Club is committed to bringing you the best of traditional martial arts along with up-to-date principles of fitness conditioning. The combination of strength, stamina, flexibility, stress reduction, and practical self-defense skills we offer is unbeatable as an efficient use of your time.
Class begins with all ranks participating in a 15 to 20 minute warm-up phase that incorporates yoga-style stretching and strength building calisthenics. We then move on to rigorous basic techniques of stances, blocks, strikes and combinations which constitute an aerobic activity phase.
The class then divides by rank into small groups to work on skills appropriate to their level of expertise. These skills may include kata/forms, blocking drills, escapes from holds, striking targets or bags for accuracy and focus, and controlled sparring. More advanced students may also participate in weapons defenses, takedowns and breakfalls, and joint locking, holds and chokes. Optional training for advanced students is also available in T’ai Chi Ch’uan and traditional Okinawan weapons.
