Description
Katryna Tan holds a Master of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of Michigan, USA. She started playing the piano at the age of 4, took up several other instruments - harp, violin, guitar, er-hu and gu zheng - and received her LTCL Diploma (Harp) at the age of 17. It was with the harp that she found her calling.
Katryna left for Australia in early 1994 and pursued both interior architecture and music. She was outstanding at the University of New South Wales, and graduated with a Bachelor of Interior Architecture with Honors Class 1; garnering the prestigious University Medal. Simultaneously she enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studied the harp with Ulpia Erdos, was extremely active as a performing harpist in Sydney.
In 2000, Katryna was awarded a two-year Fellowship from the University of Michigan, USA to pursue her Master in Harp Performance under Professor Lynne Aspnes. Whilst there, Katryna successfully maintained the position of Principal Harpist in the University Symphony Orchestra (USO). She also competed internationally and won the position of Harpist with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra (PMF) which toured Japan from July-August 2001. In June 2002, she was selected to perform with the National Orchestra Institute (NOI) in Baltimore, USA.
