Description
Lynn Gregory is the proud owner of Just My Type Letterpress Printing and Design. As well as being the founder of the company, she is also the designer and printer. Lynn believes that every person is different and everyone deserves to have their personality realized in print.
Being a little different herself, Lynn went to Humboldt State University, the smallest and most remote campus in the California State University system. After completing three years at HSU, Lynn interned with David Lance Goines in Berkeley, California. She worked on illustrations for the Chez Panisse Café Cookbook by Alice Waters, and ended up with twelve original illustrations in the cookbook. After the cookbook was completed, Goines taught Lynn the basics of letterpress printing and she was taken by it. Lynn returned to HSU to complete her degree in the fall. She graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design in May 2000. There she learned the foundation skills required of a well-rounded graphic designer (drawing, photography, printmaking, etc.) as well as the computer skills needed by today's graphic designer (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Quark, etc.).
Lynn considers having the guts to start her own business by age 25 one of her greatest achievements. Much of the confidence she has gained is due to a course that she took though Women's Initiative for Self Employment, helping her start and expand her small business. Her passion for letterpress printing is evident in all she does, and she puts time and effort into handcrafting each piece. People appreciate Lynn's work because of the attention to detail, elegance and hard work that are a part of her process. She strives to bring attention to the beauty of the 'old ways' in the increasingly fast-paced and instant-gratification driven world of today.
