J.R. Mooney Galleries of Fine Art was founded in San Antonio, Texas, in 1947 by Joe and Adelle Mooney. Both Joe and Adelle are native Texans. Robert Mooney joined the staff in 1964 and has developed additional locations as well as new artists and marketing for the galleries. The first forays into the art business came when picture framing and artist materials were added to a wide variety of merchandise. Many San Antonio and south Texas artists used the framing provided in those early years.
