This popular soul-food restaurant is located in Fort Worth, Texas. The Fort Worth Star Telegram newspaper rates it a "critics choice' restaurant. Named after John M. Carter Sr., a southern cooking chef from Shreveport, LA, John Carter's Place opened its doors in 1992 and has never looked back. It is currently owned by the Carter family, including Dr. Theron Bowman, the current Chief of Police in Arlington, Texas, and his wife Denise.
John Carter's Place Restaurant is one of the highest volume restaurants in Tarrant County. Typical entrees include chicken fried steak, honey-baked ham, turkey and dressing, friend chicken, beef neck bones, chitterlings, beef short ribs, T-bone club steak, chicken and dumplings and many others. Vegetables include turnip-collard-mustard greens, buttered corn, mashed potatoes, candied yams, green beans, black-eyed peas and okra and tomatoes. Salad selections include tossed green salad, southern potato, carrot and raisin, macaroni and cucumber. A range of desserts are available, including sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, banana pudding, bread pudding with vanilla sauce, Texas fudge cake, 7-up pound cake, cheese cake and the very popular tea cakes.
