A common reaction to the paintings of Joel Kass is often described as a shock; an overwhelming feeling of awe. It is something that underlines his entire life's work from the very beginning. And so is the artist in person. Possesing a clear cut insight into life and destiny, as one described by a close friend, Peter P. Rohde (a famous danish philosopher and author), as a prophet.

For me, the work of Joel Kass was love at first sight. His canvasses have this singular eloquence that is so particular to art, penetrating the heart,comprehensible and yet inexplicable. He was born just before the breakout of World War II in Warsaw. With his mother he flew miraculously through the German front lines to Russia and in 1948 he immigrated into Israel

I have had the privilege of knowing Joel Kass for more than three years. Some of my philosopher-colleagues took me to see him and were responsible for my discovery of his paintings. This discovery was a real shock for me. One cannot fail to be struck by the pictorial power of his work and the vehemence of its message
