- My public service and private sector experiences make me best prepared. Unaffiliated with and independent from the insurance industry, I am the ONLY candidate fully understanding of and prepared for the Commissioner's job. My years both as Assistant Insurance Commissioner already and as legislator provide skills that'll help keep rates low. I persuaded the legislature to expand monetary grants for fire departments statewide. That helps keep homeowner's insurance rates low. What distinguishes me from my opponent? I am already performing many of the duties of Insurance Commissioner. My opponent owns three muffler shops but he has NO relevant experience to either perform a job responsible for regulating $35 BILLION in annual insurance premiums we pay OR stand up for low, fair insurance rates. I am for the People, and will fight for health insurance for us all and for low workers' comp rates for our businesses. I'm the first Insurance Commissioner candidate to refuse special interest money, and the first to accept fundraising limits. It will be my honor to continue Jim Long's legacy of consumer protection. I am the only Insurance Commissioner candidate ready to lead from Day One.
