- Walford Erickson arrived in Seattle from Sweden in 1904 with his wife and son, Eric. Eric Erickson was six years old at the time. Eric remembers that when the ship arrived in Seattle it dropped anchor in Elliot Bay. His father was so eager to find work that he was one of the first people to leave the ship. He took a small passenger ferry that carried passengers from the anchored ship to the new, thriving city of Seattle. He left his wife and son on board the ship with instructions to take a later boat and find lodging while he looked for work.
