Shortly after college graduation I took my first official photography class and never expected it to have the impact it had. After years of focusing on the sciences, my creative brain was dormant and waiting to be woken up. Not only did my creative brain awaken, but I couldn't put it back to sleep! Since that first class, I completed a number of creative photography programs at schools around the country, from Maine to Montana to New Mexico. Through these experiences and wonderful instructors, I learned how to see the world in a new way.
So what makes me excited and why did I choose to open my studio? The pure and simple beauty of life. In our frenzied world, I feel that is so important to not just capture our moments, but to capture them with the beauty that they warrant. The power and emotion that a photograph can bring to the eyes of others is something that we should not take for granted.
When I pick up a camera, I am always looking to capture the greater meaning behind what is presented to me. It may be a statement, it may a particular smile, or it may be just be a gesture or mood. Whatever it may be, it is my challenge to find it.
